Some users of our school gateway app have today received attendance notifications stating that their child is absent, when in fact they are on a school trip.
We have investigated this in depth and found that the mobile phone app has a live link to our school attendance system.
When your child’s form tutor saves the register with an “N” the app automatically notifies you with the absence. This is not generated by a member of staff.
We ask that all tutors use an “N” if your child is missing as this is a legal document and requirement. Shortly after the register closes our central admin team updates the school register with students who are on a trip, placement or exclusion for example.
Once the update is made and saved your app notification should disappear in time.
Students who are still missing (with an unexplained attendance mark) are then issued with a parent alert or notification.
We hope this clarifies our attendance notification system and helps all parties understand the app a little better.
Should you have any queries please send us a message via the app or telephone student guidance.
